A youth pastor, as well as his church is facing criminal charges for a mock kidnapping of a youth group that was meant to be a lesson in religious persecution.

The Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Middletown, Pennsylvania, as well as 28-year-old Andrew David Jordan were charged with false imprisonment and simple assault, authorities said.

The church staged the event in March. Mock kidnappers covered the teenagers' heads, put them in a van, and interrogated them. Neither the young people nor their parents were told beforehand that it wasn't real.

The mother of a 14-year-old girl, identified only as K.T., filed a complaint with police after she returned from the ‘object lesson’ traumatised and covered in bruises, and with a cut lip.

According to the York Daily Record, K.T. had been attending events at the Glad Tidings Assembly for less than a month. Read More

Oh BOY---I so agree Leah---if those were my g-kids-----bad judgement.Sounds like he didn't talk to the senior pastor. Sure sounds like kidnapping and false inprisionment to me.

Since my son is a police officer---this would NOT have gone well if it was his kids. After all we hear of clergy "going off the deep end "too. How could anyone one know it was "staged?"

Very poor judgment. It certainly must have crossed a line if this girl ended up with bruises and a cut lip too. I understand them trying to get the point across that their choice to follow Christ could cost them their lives or torture in some way at some point, but not at the hands of the church.

The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry...The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
